A Church Near the University of Oklahoma

In God’s providence, we are blessed to meet on the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman at the Wesley Building at OU. We are a mere 4-minute stroll on foot from the Palace on the Prairie. With its close connection to the university, Norman is a very entertaining city. Our city’s population doubles in size at least six weekends every year and majorly expands each August through May. We enjoy the life and the shouts of “Boomer” and “Sooner” and the world-class events that OU puts on regularly.

We are a church for Norman. Norman centers upon the University of Oklahoma, so we view our purpose to function as salt and light to the city and the campus. How do we relate to the University? Jesus’ words in the sermon on the mount delineate that the campus and the church are two distinct institutions and many of our members will have feet in both institutions. See here:

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.- Matthew 5:13-16

As seen above, we pray for the Lord to enable Trinity Presbyterian Church of Norman to be a potent salt and powerful light for our beloved campus. We have many Sooner alumni in our church, current Sooner students, and, Lord willing, future Sooner students. We have Sooner faculty. We have Sooner fans. We are grateful for the University because it brings people together. This past weekend, many of our members attended the OU football game. It saddens us that many who share our passion for the University of Oklahoma have not yet found a passion for our God of Grace: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Demographic data and experience testify that many Norman residents and OU students are unchurched, de-churched, or nones (having no religious affiliation at all). We believe God put us here to change that and baptize many in Norman into Jesus Christ.

We pray that the city and the campus of OU will benefit greatly from having a growing, multiplying church nearby committed to biblical theology, the gospel, covenants, the Westminster Confession of Faith, Presbyterianism, evangelism & missions, expositional preaching and teaching with a welcoming, humble community.

If you’re like us and share a passion for Christ, his church, and campus, come visit the church and worship with us. Perhaps, you are looking to grow deeper in your relationship with Christ, benefit from an encouraging community, and grow in understanding how to study the Bible, we think Trinity Presbyterian Church would be a great church home for you whether you are a student at OU for a short time or you are a long term Norman citizen.

Soli Deo Gloria!
